Secretary-General of ECO to conduct an official visit to fortify regional cooperation
The Secretary-General of the Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO), Dr. Asad Majeed Khan, will conduct an official visit to Islamic Republic of Pakistan from April 8 to 10, 2025. This high-level visit marks a noteworthy moment for Pakistan and ECO as the organization seeks to foster regional integration, economic development and multilateral cooperation among its member states.
During his visit to Islamabad, Dr. Khan is expected to hold strategic consultations with the President of Pakistan, the Prime Minister, the Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister, as well as other senior federal ministers and policymakers. These meetings will focus on advancing and exploring avenues for enhanced collaboration between ECO and Pakistan in key areas of mutual interest.
In these meetings, the Secretary-General will also shed light on ECO’s current initiatives and share his vision for reforming the organisation. Reform-oriented agenda aims to invigorate the organization by making it more adaptive and responsive to the evolving needs of its member states. Dr. Khan’s strategic priorities include firming up intra-regional partnerships, promoting sustainable economic integration.
Following the conclusion of his official engagements in the federal capital, the Secretary-General will travel to Lahore to participate in the 294th Meeting of the ECO Council of Permanent Representatives, scheduled from 12 to 15 April 2025.
The visit is also viewed as an important opportunity to strengthen Pakistan’s leadership role within ECO, particularly in areas such as regional connectivity, trade facilitation, energy cooperation, and sustainable development. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan has welcomed the visit and emphasized its potential to strengthen the shared vision of a more interconnected, stable, and affluent ECO region.
Dr. Khan’s visit, following his assumption of office as Secretary-General of ECO, is expected to contribute to thickening multilateral collaboration across the region.
