Across the world, we are witnessing a wave of conflicts in some places, tensions are emerging; in others, they are simmering beneath the surface; and in some regions, they have erupted with full intensity.

Thousands of lives have been lost and countless people have been displaced. Those who survived are enduring such immense mental and physical trauma that it can neither be measured nor healed. The hardships they have faced have left scars on their minds, hearts, and souls that may never truly heal.

Those who survived are trapped in an abyss of unbearable mental and physical torment. The pain is so deep, it confronts comprehension and no remedy on earth can ever bring them peace.

The intensity of wars, conflicts, and crises varies from one region to another, from one state to the next. The impact on those who suffer from these conflicts whether individually or collectively takes on a unique and deeply personal form. How these experiences affect the lives of those individuals can neither be measured nor consoled, their grief lies beyond the reach of words or remedy.

The conflicts of 2025 alone have shaken the entire world to its core. The clouds of a third world war are looming over the sky. For those countries and places being bombed or occupied by foreign forces, the agony they suffer is even greater than that of a third world war. The world simply talks about it but they are the ones who suffer, who undergo the unbearable.

In 2025, the ongoing war in Gaza, the relentless Russia-Ukraine conflict, the brief yet alarming confrontation between Pakistan and India in May, the escalating attacks and crises across the Middle East, and the deepening humanitarian disaster in Sudan.

It is not as if the world made no effort to resolve these crises. Protests were held, rallies took to the streets, and many world leaders strongly condemned the violence. Those who could, sent aid and assistance. Yet, where the balance of power existed, the wars subsided but where it did not, the conflicts grew violent. The result has been the same everywhere: the defilement of human life, hunger, despair, and the complete collapse of the order of living.

The United Nations organisation also met repeatedly and tried to find solutions but the whole world witnessed the UN’s helplessness — nothing could be resolved. The very definition of a ceasefire has been turned upside down in the Gaza-Israel war.  Israel is not allowing Gaza even a single breath of peace. And indeed, wherever there is war or violent crisis, it is always the powerful who stand firm in their arrogance and obstinacy.

More than 67,000 Palestinians have been killed in two years with thousands still under the rubble. More than 169,000 people have been injured, many with life-altering wounds. UNICEF estimated that 3,000 to 4,000 children in Gaza have lost one or more limbs.

Similarly, the destruction caused by the war in Ukraine is no less severe.  According to estimates from the Kyiv School of Economics (KSE), Ukraine’s infrastructure has suffered more than $170bn in direct damage since the war began. The badly affected sectors include housing, energy and transport.  The four-day war between India and Pakistan also caused significant damage. The two sides had launched missiles deep inside each other’s territory.

In Sudan, a severe conflict is also ongoing there. More than two years of civil war have decimated Sudan. Civilians are subject to frequent attacks and human rights violations, while the country’s health care system has collapsed as life-threatening famine sets in.  Even before the war erupted in April 2023, Sudan was already experiencing a severe humanitarian crisis that left 15.8 million people in need of aid. Now, over two years of war have drastically worsened these conditions, displacing over 12 million people and leaving 30.4 million people more than half of Sudan’s population in need of humanitarian support.

Apart from this, major and minor conflicts are ongoing in almost every region. The situation is catastrophic, marked by heartbreaking and tragic incidents against humanity.
